Away

I have soooo been away from blogging, but I promise you, I will get back to it soon.  I have many things to share….

Awake to Awareness, your Inner Light

For much of my life, I have had cats.  They have ALWAYS AMAZED me the way they do their day.  It seems like they are sleeping most of the time (unless they are kittens who tend to play), or lazily walking around the house.  Before they get up from a nap, they like to stretch their whole body, as if they don’t have a care in the world – and many of them don’t.  But, when they place their FOCUS ON SOMETHING, they are very much aware what is going on.  For instance, there have been times when a bird has fallen into my fireplace (I keep a screen around it) and my hunter will stay in front of it for hours, just waiting.  Totally AWARE.  Totally ALERT. Totally focused and fixated.  In order for me to save the bird, I have to lock the cat up in another room, open the front door and try to chase the bird in that direction.  Eventually, I WIN.  I Am totally aware of the bird, at all times.  I Am totally focused, for if I wasn’t, I may not see that the bird flew into a different room instead of out the door.  Only after the bird is safe does the cat get let out.  She is still aware, but also knows that there is nothing to be fixated on any longer.  Then she goes and attends something else, usually on her food.  Then back to napping. The other thing I’ve noticed about cats (or dogs) is that even though they seem to spend a fair amount of time resting, when duty calls, they are totally alert and READY FOR THE JOB AT HAND.  And, they stay with that job until it is done.

Animals have high instincts, but they cannot ENVISION THE FUTURE, like we can.  At least we are CAPABLE of envisioning a future providing we place our ATTENTION on one.  Some people walk around ‘asleep’ for most of the time, half heartedly doing their ‘job’, but not in a RESTED STATE.  As a matter of fact, many are in a stressed state, and aren’t able to envision their future, for whatever reason.  Or, they envision a future that mirrors the state they are currently in.  By keeping themselves in a negative vibrational state, they attract the same type of energy. Half-hearted awareness can create confusion, dullness, and cause us to misunderstand the world around us.  A person who has awareness is more CALM AND PRESENT  because they CAN envision a BRIGHTER FUTURE.  They have CLARITY.  They have PURPOSE.  They can FORMULATE PLANS from their desires, and carry those plans out. Their awareness SHINES LIGHT on their future.  It’s as if your mind were a light bulb and awareness provides the current to turn it on.  I Am sure most of you have seen in cartoons whenever someone has an idea it is shown by a lightbulb turning on over their head.  They became ‘aware’ of an idea.  THOUGHTS ARE THINGS, when you place YOUR CONTINUED ATTENTION on it.  A thought follows another thought, and those thoughts continue to work on the idea as long as you keep YOUR DESIRE AND PERSISTENCE on that idea. COMMITMENT coupled with FAITH IS KEY.  When you are committed, PROVIDENCE TAKES OVER and provides you with the means to carry it out.  People come into your path, money shows up, doors open.  It may not be in the timeframe that we think it should happen, but IT IS HAPPENING AS IT SHOULD.

Keep your awareness sharp and vibrant (HIGH VIBRATIONS).  Awareness provides THE LIGHT YOU NEED, just like a light in a dark room.  You know when your flashlight’s batteries are low because the light becomes dim; therefore, the objects around you aren’t as clear and may even look like something else, altogether.  Keep the batteries of your mind new.  Place focus on your thoughts.  Don’t let mindless chatter, or worry rob you of the energy that you could be using for greater things.  Whatever you are doing right now, DO IT WITH GREATNESS.  OBSERVE WITHOUT JUDGEMENT.  When my mind moves into ‘cerebral chatter’, I visualize an aquarium tank filled with colorful fish swimming around.  The fish are my thoughts, and the aquarium is my mind.  Instead of trying to follow one moving fish, while another swims past and catches my eye, I just watch them all swim around, enjoy the colors and move into a ‘ZEN’ like state.  Once I AM CALM, I Am able to refocus and place my thoughts on one idea.  From there, I BUILD.

The Power of Prayer – OH NO! She’s religious!

OK, this can be a controversial subject, and DEFINING PRAYER can be a study on its own.  MANY PEOPLE don’t even like to talk about it for fear of being ‘too religious’, or BELONGING to one of those ‘organized religions’.  (BTW – most of us belong to some organized group, be it through Social Media, certain fields of vocations, Meet-up groups, political parties, and the like – they all have some sort of rules that we have to ATTEND.)

Now, Science has taken a SECOND LOOK at the POWER OF PRAYER, and that seems to make it NOT so SCARY for people.  If there is a scientific explanation rather than a metaphysical explanation it feels more ‘REAL’.  Yet, many people belong to Law of Attraction groups, speak of seeing more Orbs in pictures (you know, those bubble-like things that show up in a picture but weren’t there when you took the picture),  sparkly specks that you see for a split second and you almost wonder if you even saw them (you did).   With more information about Quantum Physics, people feel a RELIEF TO KNOW there is a ‘scientific explanation’ about these things. Whew!   But, I digress….

An article in a popular magazine wrote about the HEALING Power of Prayer, and included an excerpt on a US study on FAITH that uncovered   UNEXPLAINABLE healings.  Scientists are discovering that THOSE WHO PRACTICE their faith (i.e. they go to church, or pray on a regular basis, which could INCLUDE MEDITATION) have lower blood pressure, HEAL MORE QUICKLY from surgeries and/or illness, have BETTER OUTCOMES from coronary diseases, lung issues were less, and there were fewer suicides.  There was a considerable DIFFERENCE IN LIFE EXPECTANCIES between those who never attend church and those who attend regularly.  This holds true for those who are not able to pray for themselves, i.e. in a coma, in surgery, etc., and they did not even need to know someone was praying for them for the prayers to be EFFECTIVE.

The Healing Code makes claims that their system (channeled (sic) through Dr. Alex Loyd) has passed the ‘gold standard’ Heart Rate Variability (HRV) testing, and that PEOPLE remain IN BALANCE long after they’ve done the code.  Without delving too much into THEIR SYSTEM, I will say that the Code begins with a prayer about what the person wants healed.  I have prayed for my clients for years, they aren’t ALWAYS AWARE that I do, and it isn’t necessary for them to know about it unless they want to.  Sometimes it is as SIMPLE as “Lord, I don’t know what this person needs, but You do.  Please GUIDE my work.  Let us both be able to HANDLE what shows up.”  My motto has been, “I treat, God Heals”, and I make no apologies for my BELIEFS.

HEALINGS HAPPEN DAILY, and sometimes we don’t RECOGNIZE THEM right away.  They can be physical, and that is what many people think healing is about, but it can be in a mental/emotional place, or on the Soul level.  In any case, WE ARE ONE Being created in three parts that CANNOT BE SEPARATED; mind, body, and soul.  Therefore, if healing occurs in one area, it will affect the other two areas.  Not to worry, when healing happens, YOU WILL FEEL IT in some form.  It HAS BEEN RECORDED that the healing can happen throughout THE FAMILY LINE, as well.  Illness is ancestral – (refer to my article on Reincarnation) – and healing can follow THE SAME PATHWAY.

My prayer FOR ANYONE reading this article is:

“May YOU BE FILLED with the LIGHT, LIFE, and LOVE OF GOD.  May the ANGELS be always AT YOUR SIDE, to Light, to Guard, to Rule and Guide you, and to KEEP YOU FROM STUMBLING.  May God gently show you YOUR TRUE PATH, and give you ALL YOU NEED to follow it.  May God give you Peace, Abundance, and Prosperity, and may you return the favor by SHOWing GRATITUDE and PAYing IT FORWARD.”  So Be It.

Aging Skin

The human skin acts as a barrier between the external environment that we live in and our internal being.  It is the largest organ of our body and the only organ we need to take care of from the inside and the outside.  As we age, our skin begins to thin out, have structural breakdown, and the loss of vascularity can contribute to this deterioration.  We have less insulating capacity, show more veins, and have diminished cutaneous innervation.  It has less elasticity and the wrinkling sets in.  It has been reported that after the age of 30, there is a 20% loss of epidermal melanocytes per decade.  These are the cells that produce your tan, which is why older people can sit out in the sun and may not produce an even tan, and why too much UV radiation can be damaging.  This can increase the risk of skin cancers along with ethnic origin, sex, and where you live.

Now, while we can’t avoid aging, that doesn’t mean there aren’t things you can do to slow down the process.  Looking at your lifestyle is a good beginning.  I Am a proponent of the Sun being a part of our ‘stay healthy’ process, and I have always suggested getting some Sun exposure every day.   It gives us full spectrum lighting.  That doesn’t mean you should be out in it during the hottest time of the day – the morning hours can give plenty of benefit to your health without ruinning your skin.   Yes, too much UV radiation is not good, but you do need some to stay healthy.  Keeping yourself hydrated, eating healthy foods, and keeping yourself fit with proper exercise can all be a part of the plan, while decreasing those things that can dehydrate our bodies; coffee, smoking, alcohol, etc.  Many lotions can contain alcohols or other drying agents that can hurt the skin, and I would suggest using something simple and natural like coconut oil, or olive oil, instead.  Coconut oil is a medium chain fatty acid and doesn’t make you feel greasy as a thicker oil might.  I make my own body cremes using the oil of my choice, water/borax,  and bees wax (there is a process – you can’t just throw them together and expect a creme).

Visiting your doctor/dermatologist when you notice discolorations or growths is important to determine if skin cancers are growing.  Many things that show up are benign, but it is important to have them ruled out by your doctor.

My BeautifyNaturally two-part program uses a variety of techniques that help to reverse the aging of your face and neck.  By bringing back your natural glow, increasing the collagen and elastin, diminishing the wrinkles and deeper lines, reducing puffiness, and increasing blood and lymph to the face, you will look more youthful and feel your best.  This is a hands-on service.

Call now to book an appointment for a no cost “Free My Wrinkles” consultation, today.  (By now, if you’ve read this far, you must want to make some changes in your look and well-being – I can help.)

Ben Franklin

I have been reading about Ben Franklin, one of our Founding Fathers and America’s original entrepreneur.  He was a fascinating man, and his creations are still, in some form, being used today, i.e. libraries.  I started reading about him because in some coaching work I was involved in, New You Life Coaching, I saw many quotes of his being used.  Part of this coaching was about money; therefore, when there were images of money,  his face seemed to appear – because he is on the hundred dollar bill.  His eyes seemed to be staring at me, and I liked his quotes, and his Poor Richard sayings.  It inspired me to read more about him.

Poor Richard once said, “God helps those who help themselves.”

He was a man who tried to live with integrity.  He held high business ethics, and kept his eyes open for opportunities.  He lived the first part of his life quite cheaply because he believed that debt held people in slavery.  I believe that, too.  It seems nothing can break a family apart faster than money problems, with the exception of infidelity.  Ben was strict with himself, but because he didn’t squander his money and lived simply, he became debt free and wealthy.  He worked long days, tried to surround himself with learned men, and didn’t cheat anyone.  He believed in God, though he developed his own way of worshipping Him.

Poor Richard once said,”Think of three things; whence you came, where you are going, and to whom you must account.”

One thing he said that I would like to leave you with, paraphrased:  “Wrong doing is not harmful to yourself and others because it is forbidden; it is forbidden because it is harmful.  It is in the interest of everyone to live a virtuous life if they want to be happy and successful.  Nothing will make a person’s fortune like honesty and goodness, whether you work for yourself in business, or someone else.”

Poor Richard once said, “Search others for their virtues, thyself for your vices.”

Gratitude

We hear it all the time that we should be grateful for all we have. When we are struggling with a problem in our life, sometimes it is hard to be able to see the positive in it. That can be due to focusing on the fear, instead. Faith is born of gratitude, fear cannot live in faith. Like attracts like; therefore, when we are in gratitude, we attract more positive energy towards ourselves, and our situations. When we focus on fear, we attract more fear and negativity in our lives.

Now, this doesn’t mean you aren’t going to feel bad about a mishap, or have a crisis. You do have a choice how you react to it, though. Sometimes my on-the-spot reaction can be one of internal; therefore, external intensity, but it truly doesn’t do anything to make the situation better. Many times I have to back myself off until the chemistry of my emotions settle down. It is possible that I may not have full information about a situation, or I had expectations that weren’t met. It has happened that when plans have changed on me, it has been for the better, or the time was opened up for something else to slip in. I trust in God’s Perfect Order, even if I don’t understand it, or I think it is too harsh for my liking. “Bad” things do happen, but even in the worst, it brings empathetic people together. Many times, when a door is closed, a window is opened.

Personally, this year has been a financial challenge. Like others, I have lost work, but being self-employed, there are no benefits for me to fall back on, like unemployment. I have to be creative, and necessity is the mother of invention. I’ve restructured, dropped some types of work, picked up others, and have debted to get done what I felt needed to be done in my changes. For me, a good year is if I can gift my family and friends at Christmas. Well, this year I really wondered if I would be able to do that. I couldn’t really spare using any money that I have alloted for other things to keep my house going. But, I have skills, and I called upon them. One is that I sew. I have lots of material, a machine, and more time on my hands. My family all received blankets from me. Some in patchwork, sunflowers, Strawberry Shortcake, two WWII Army blankets that I covered (to honor the 70 year anniversary of the soldiers who died in the bombing of Pearl Harbor – one lost life because of that bombing was my Naval uncle Donald Kraker). I told my sons that when they are wrapped in their blankets at night, they can give thanks to all those who fought to keep them and our country free. Friends and extended family were given a night of food, drink, music, and firelight. All included my love in doing for them things that would be remembered, and which provided happiness. I Am grateful for having been able to do this. Therefore, no matter the mishaps and uncertainties, I Am having a good year. May the best of 2011 be the worst in 2012. God Bless you all.

What actually is ‘Qi’, anyway?

Most people have at least HEARD of the word Qi, and many are now associating it with energy (a loose translation), but do you know that there are several types of Qi in Oriental Medicine, and that they have specific jobs?  Qi is fundamental to Asian medical thinking.  Ted Kaptchuk, OMD, in his book, “The Web That Has No Weaver” (which I highly recommend) explains it this way, “..we can perhaps think of Qi as matter on the verge of becoming energy, or energy at the point of materializing.”   Matter is energy frozen in light.  So, let’s distinguish, in this blog, the different forms of Qi, and what their purpose is.

Chinese medicine (or Oriental/Asian medicine) refers to all Qi of the body as Zheng Qi (Normal), or Zhen Qi (True).  This is what it is called before it becomes the other types of Qis in the body, with specific functions.  A comparison could be that when you were in utero, the cells that begin the process of creating you have not yet deciphered what they will become, i.e. heart cells, stomach cells, skin cells, etc.  There are three sources of Zheng Qi; Yuan Qi (Original/Prenatal), which is in part responsible for your inherited constitution, Gu Qi (Grain), derived from the foods you eat – and only good foods can create this Qi, and Kong Qi (Air) which is taken from the air we breathe in.   The combining of these three Qis create the Normal Qi, and it permeates the entire body.

What are the functions of Qi?

As I stated above, there are several divisions that take place with Zheng Qi, creating the specific Qis, with specific functions.  Zheng Qi is referred to as the Qi of the body that everyone refers to when they are talking about Qi.  Qi is in constant movement and ascends, descends, enters, and leaves the body.  It is inseparable from movement.  There are five major functions of this Qi within your body.

1.  It is the source of all movement in the body, and accompanies all movement.  Sometimes this can be a hard concept to follow, but an example could be your Blood.  Blood is a substance that will just lie there if it does not have Qi to push it along.  Blood and Qi cannot be separated; Blood nourishes Qi, and Qi moves Blood.   The development of your body happens because Qi is there to move that development along.  Qi expands with the growth of your body.  Qi is harmonious in Nature, but when it is blocked, it creates disharmony, or stagnation.

2.   Qi protects the body.  When it is healthy (harmonious, and in balance), it protects us from external influences (which we call EPIs – External Pernicious Influences), and combats them if they do enter.  They will only enter if our Qi is weak.  You know that when your resistance is low, you will get sick.

3.  Qi is the source of transformation in our body.  Remember that I said ‘good foods’?  You cannot eat junk food and expect good Qi to come from it.  It can only be created from good foods (bad foods are simply eliminated).  It combines with the Air Qi to create other substances, like Blood, sweat, and tears (how’s that for a classic!), and urine.

4. Qi governs the body’s Substances and Organs, and keeps them in place.  Basically, without that function, everything would fall out, or prolapse.

5.  Qi keeps the body warm.  This is your body heat.

I hope that this helps you understand what is referred to as your Qi.

Snapshot view of the difference of Oriental vs Western medicine

Oriental Medicine (East) may consider aspects of the body that aren’t significant to Western medicine.  The Oriental Medicine practitioner directs the attention to the complete physiological and psychological aspects of the individual, gathers that information until it forms what is referred to as ‘a pattern of disharmony’.  The Western medicine is concerned more with isolable disease categories or agents of disease, which it can isolate and zero in on.  The terminology between the two medicines can differ, also.  The East may speak of dampness, the West may call it edema, or fat.  The East refers to heat, or wind-heat, the West may call it a temperature, or a rash.  Unfortunately, terms do not always translate.  Both medicines have logic, but can appear to be pointing in two different directions.  Though, both can work together and can compliment each other, nicely.  Both forms of medicine are important to our world, health and well-being.  Personally, I use a combination of both.
